Discover the secret to thriving with God, even when the world isn't

Even when the world is in famine, you can still thrive.

When we think of wealth and provision, it's easy to limit our expectations to what we can see around us—our jobs, our bank accounts, or the state of the economy. But the story of Joseph in Genesis 41–47:27 offers us a divine blueprint: God can guide His people to create and sustain wealth, even in the most difficult seasons, and even using the resources of the unbelieving world.

From Series: Life lesson learned from the Bible Genesis, chapters 37-50

Thriving with God

Joseph didn’t rise to influence through conventional means. He was betrayed, sold, falsely accused, and imprisoned, yet God’s hand never left him.

Through divine wisdom and favor, Joseph was promoted to second-in-command over Egypt, the most powerful nation of his time. And what did God do through him? He positioned Joseph to manage the wealth of Egypt and prepare for a coming famine that would shake the region.

It’s important to note that at this point in history, the Egyptians and Canaanites were not considered part of God’s covenant people. In fact, it wouldn’t be until generations later, under Joshua’s leadership, that the Israelites would take possession of the Promised Land from the Canaanites (Joshua 1–24). That means that during Joseph’s time, it was largely unbelievers who were impacted by the famine, not God’s people.

Yet, God used Joseph, a believer, to not only preserve lives but also to transfer wealth. The famine led Egypt to consolidate resources, land, and economic control, and Joseph was the steward of that transfer. As Proverbs 13:22 tells us, “the wealth of the wicked is stored up for the righteous.” Joseph’s leadership literally fulfilled this principle.

Even more powerful is the fact that Joseph’s household was provided for throughout the seven years of famine. Genesis 47:12 says, “Joseph also provided his father and his brothers and all his father’s household with food, according to the number of their children.” While the world around them suffered, God’s people thrived.

So what does this mean for us today?

Scripture reminds us again and again that God is our provider:

  • “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

  • “God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times…you will abound in every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8)

  • “Seek first the kingdom… and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)

  • “The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing.” (Psalm 23:1)

We are not bound by the systems of this world. Just as God gave Joseph divine strategy, He will give you wisdom and insight for your business, your finances, your job, and your future.

You may even find that what the enemy meant for evil, God will use for your good, and that the very systems of the world are working to funnel provision into your hands (Romans 8:28).

In every season, even famine, God is able to make His people thrive.

A call for salvation

When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, His Spirit becomes one with yours. This is one of the greatest blessings of salvation. You no longer need to go through anyone else to reach God—because you and He are now united.

All you need to do is receive the gift of salvation by repenting of your sins, inviting Jesus into your life, and confessing Him as Lord. This involves acknowledging your sin and the need for forgiveness, believing that Jesus died for your sins and rose again, and then surrendering your life to Him.

As Romans 10:9 declares, “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” And 1 John 4:15 assures us, “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.”

Another important step is to renounce the kingdom of darkness. By doing so, you are breaking any covenant or partnership with it and recommitting yourself to the Kingdom of Light—Jesus Christ.

When you take this step, you are saved and welcomed into God’s Kingdom—becoming a member of the family of Christ!

Here's a Prayer that you can pray to get saved:

"Jesus, I confess that You are Lord, and I believe in my heart that You died and rose again for my sins. I know that I am a sinner, and I repent and ask for Your forgiveness. I invite You to come into my heart and life, and I receive You as my personal Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Renounce the Kingdom of Darkness

Right now, I renounce and break all ties, covenants, and agreements with the kingdom of darkness, knowingly or unknowingly made. I reject Satan, all his works, and every influence of evil over my life.

Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Lead me, teach me, and establish me in Your purpose. From this day forward, I belong to Jesus. I am a child of God, and I walk in the light. In Jesus' name, Amen.

After this step, pray for guidance to find a ministry where you can grow spiritually, gain knowledge about the kingdom, and begin living the abundant life promised by Jesus.
