Let's Be the ‘Have You Heard?’ Generation

Updated: Sep 10

The way we live should showcase God’s wonders and spark conversations everywhere, because we’re called to live in a way that makes God’s works undeniable and unforgettable. So, let’s be the generation that makes the world say, ‘We’ve heard what the Lord has done!’ (Joshua 2:10).

This is the type of gossip worth spreading!

Let the Right Gossip Spread

When people think of gossip, they usually think of negativity—rumors, half-truths, or words that tear others down. And they would be right.

Gossip is intended to be disparaging and may consist of information that isn't necessarily true.

But what if we turned that idea upside down and give people who enjoy talking about other people's lives something to talk about? What if the “gossip” that people are spreading was about God’s goodness, His power, and His mighty works in our lives?

In Joshua 2:10, Rahab tells the Israelite spies: “We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt.” Even non-believers in Jericho were talking about what God had done for His people. God’s miracles had made the headlines of the day.

That’s the kind of “report” we should want to spread in our generation. Imagine people around us—whether they believe in God or not—saying: “We’ve heard how the Lord has blessed them, delivered them, healed them, and carried them through.”

This is more than mere words—it’s testimony.

Our lives can be living proof that God is real, powerful, and present. And when that testimony circulates, faith rises, hope is stirred, people witness God in our lives, and most importantly, people find salvation, bringing glory to God (Exodus 15:14).

It can happen, if we trust God

Trust in God’s plan and leadership to accomplish what needs to be done (Exodus 14:1–31), and do not be afraid when it seems as though the plan may not work (Exodus 14:11–12).

Pharaoh chased after Israel with 600 of his finest chariots, comparable to today's advanced military technology. Not only did he use his elite chariots (Exodus 15:4), but he also brought along the rest of his forces (Exodus 14:7). Yet, God—being all-knowing—already had a plan to cause Pharaoh to act in a way that would fulfill His purpose.

God was the one who hardened Pharaoh’s heart after Pharaoh had repeatedly refused to obey His command to release the Israelites (Exodus 9:12), and once again He hardened Pharaoh’s heart to pursue Israel into the wilderness (Exodus 14:4). God knew this would happen in advance (Isaiah 46:10), because of His all-knowing, all-wise, and sovereign nature (Job 42:2; Romans 11:33).

Through this, Pharaoh ended up playing a role in God’s sovereign will, which was to demonstrate His power, not only to Egypt, but also to the surrounding nations (Exodus 9:16; Joshua 2:9–11).

This is the same vantage point we have when we trust God and allow Him to lead our lives (Proverbs 3:5–6). He uses everything we experience to bring us to our own victorious moments (Romans 8:28; Genesis 50:20).

So let’s be the generation that sparks the right kind of talk. Let’s live in such a way that the “gossip” about us is really about Him.

A call for salvation

When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, His Spirit becomes one with yours. This is one of the greatest blessings of salvation. You no longer need to go through anyone else to reach God—because you and He are now united.

All you need to do is receive the gift of salvation by repenting of your sins, inviting Jesus into your life, and confessing Him as Lord. This involves acknowledging your sin and the need for forgiveness, believing that Jesus died for your sins and rose again, and then surrendering your life to Him.

As Romans 10:9 declares, “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” And 1 John 4:15 assures us, “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.”

Another important step is to renounce the kingdom of darkness. By doing so, you are breaking any covenant or partnership with it and recommitting yourself to the Kingdom of Light—Jesus Christ.

When you take this step, you are saved and welcomed into God’s Kingdom—becoming a member of the family of Christ!

Here's a Prayer that you can pray to get saved:

"Jesus, I confess that You are Lord, and I believe in my heart that You died and rose again for my sins. I know that I am a sinner, and I repent and ask for Your forgiveness. I invite You to come into my heart and life, and I receive You as my personal Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Renounce the Kingdom of Darkness

Right now, I renounce and break all ties, covenants, and agreements with the kingdom of darkness, knowingly or unknowingly made. I reject Satan, all his works, and every influence of evil over my life.

Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Lead me, teach me, and establish me in Your purpose. From this day forward, I belong to Jesus. I am a child of God, and I walk in the light. In Jesus' name, Amen.

After this step, pray for guidance to find a ministry where you can grow spiritually, gain knowledge about the kingdom, and begin living the abundant life promised by Jesus.
